DIY Menstrual Cup Stain Remover
When you begin researching or shopping around for a menstrual cup, you will find that almost every brand also sells a special wash to clean your cup with.
This is something that is totally unnecessary for you to purchase, especially as it can cost $10-$20 dollars.
Aside from boiling your cup to sanitize it if you so choose, obviously you will wash it in between cycles with soap.
Even with washing, though, and making sure any gunk is gone, you may notice that your cup is starting to get a bit of a tinge or stain on its surface. Mine starting doing this recently around the edge where the suction holes sit, and it wouldn’t come off with hand soap. So I brought in reinforcements- ingredients we all have in our homes.
All you need to clean any staining off your menstrual cup is:
-vinegar
-peroxide
-soap (if desired, but not really necessary)
-baking soda (also not necessary, but always helpful when it comes to scrubbing)
Mix a small amount of these ingredients together in a small bowl or container, and allow your cup to soak for at least 5-10 minutes. Scrub your cup with an old toothbrush or whatever you have on hand. Doing this under running water can help rinse it as you go. If the stain isn’t totally gone, allow your cup to soak for a few minutes more, and repeat scrubbing and soaking until it’s clean and like new!
I chose to let mine soak two or three times between scrubbing to ensure that it was stain free. The longer you leave the stain, the longer you will likely have to allow your cup to soak for it all to come off.
It’s as simple as that! No need to spend money on a wash that is marketed specifically toward menstrual cups, when you already have the ingredients to deep clean it in your home!
