Slow-Fashion Spotlight: Wear Pact | Product Review

If you’re wanting to transition to a more ethical and sustainable wardrobe, you may be wondering where to start. Or you may still be in a place where you’re researching and trying to learn why divorcing fast-fashion is so important (I did a post all about that, which you can read right here).

It can be overwhelming to find brands to invest your money in- there are a surprising number of small, sustainable, and ethical brands popping up all around the world. How are you supposed to find one whose products you like, but that is also affordable and aligns with your values?

That’s what I’m here for! I’m doing the work of searching for you, to find the brands you can feel proud to support financially.

Today I am excited to share with you all a brand that I have been following ever since I watched The True Cost documentary for the first time, and have purchased from myself. The items shown in this post were gifted to me, and I am sharing them with you so that you can choose for yourself if you want to try them, too!

What is Pact Apparel?

Pact is a sustainable and ethical clothing brand (they also sell towels and bedding) that is dedicated to changing the fashion industry: how they make clothes, how they value work; how we, as consumers, treat our bodies; and how we all, producers and consumers, serve our environment. Not only are their clothes awesome, but so is their customer service- which we all know is super important!

All of Pact’s products are organic GOTS certified cotton, fair trade USA factory certified, and are guaranteed sustainable and ethical style.

Why is organic cotton important? It uses 91% less water than conventional cotton production, and it uses no toxic chemicals or dyes. It’s better for us, for the farmers, and for the planet!

On their About page, this is how they describe their brand:

“We do organic. It’s all we’ve ever known and it is what separates us from the trend chasers and the half-hearted. Our authenticity allows us to challenge the stereotypes of organic — it’s too expensive, it’s only important when it comes to food, it’s only for environmental activists. Wrong – it’s for everyone — all day, every day — from work to travel to lazy Sunday mornings in bed and even those crazy on-the-go days. Our clothes are practical, comfortable, and easy because life isn’t always so. If it is a textile that touches the skin, Pact is the one-stop-shop where consumers can find organic alternatives that fit their lifestyle because doing good should be easy.”

Their Mission?

To make organic clothing affordable so that people can care about what they put on their body, not only what they put in their body; to transform how clothes are made, how the environment is treated, and how workers are cared for; to empower people to have access to fair trade products, and provide the most ethical products on the market.

Pact believes that the best ingredients make the best clothes and products; the people who make our clothes are as important as the people who wear them; style and sustainability can coexist; and doing more-with-less is more, as there is beauty in simplicity.

Product Discussion/Review

Pact was very generous in letting me choose a few products to try out and share with you guys, so I’m going to share my thoughts about those pieces here.

The first item I chose was the High Waist Leggings.

I have been looking for a pair of full-length black leggings for a while, and these- well, they do not disappoint. These leggings are serious business, and I could tell that they were great quality right after taking them out of the package! They just felt strong in my hands, super durable and well constructed.

Even with only 11% elastane, these leggings are nice and tight, in the best way; though they do take some minor effort getting them on and off. They are stretchy (obviously), but super secure- I wore them on a run, and they didn’t budge or droop one bit (I know because the butt seam was in the same place at the start and end of my workout 😉 )! The high-waisted design is super comfortable for this same reason. These aren’t “high-waisted” like some brands claim– on my 5′ 2″ frame, they go above my belly button, which I prefer (I ordered a size small, for reference)! Plus, the pocket in back is large enough to comfortably fit my phone, not just a house key.

When I need leggings again in the future I will definitely be repurchasing these- no more Old Navy for me!

The second piece I ordered was the High Neck Sports Bra (on clearance, so this particular one will be gone soon) in a size small. It takes a little bit of wrangling to get it on because there’s no clasp, but it’s comfortable and secure! For reference, I would probably do well with a medium, too, it just depends on the fit that you prefer.

I’ve never owned a high neck bra like this, so initially it did take a little getting used to, but it’s nice to have the extra coverage in front. Like the leggings, this bra is nice quality and well constructed; it doesn’t shift or ride-up anywhere during your workout.

I really like the heather grey color of this fabric, and the overall design. It’s still basic, and you can style it in a variety of ways, but the design is just different enough to make it fun.

Finally, I ordered the Tulip Wrap Dress, in size small.

I can already tell that this dress is going to be a staple piece for me this summer. The fabric is 100% organic cotton, but is also surprisingly lightweight, and breathable for those humid days! While the neckline is low, so you’ll probably want to wear a tank underneath (Pact sells a variety of these as well).

The cut of this dress is not only cute, but super comfortable. You can adjust the waist thanks to the wrap style, and the length gives you plenty of coverage from all sides, without being too long; on my frame, the back of the hem hits right at my knee. With the pieces of the skirt meeting right in the middle, you do have to be conscientious when sitting or if it’s windy outside- there’s not as much overlap as there would be if the front piece extended farther over to the side.

Perhaps the best part of the whole thing: this dress has pockets!

I know this dress is going to get a lot of use in my wardrobe, and I’m excited to play with all the ways I can dress it up or down. I don’t know if I’ve ever owned a black dress as versatile as this one:)

I really appreciate Pact and all the work they are doing to change the fashion industry. Not only are their materials ethically sourced, but the pieces themselves are ethically constructed. They have products available for the whole family, and they ensure an affordable price-point– something that can be difficult to find when shopping with slow brands.

Also, something that I so appreciate and admire, and that keeps me coming back as a loyal customer, is their awesome customer service! They are so generous and accommodating, kind and gracious when you have questions or issues with orders. Aside from their very generous gifting of these items to me for review, when we had an issue with an item, they didn’t hesitate to correct it at no cost or hassle to me.

If you’re looking for ways to change your wardrobe and your shopping habits, purchasing from a brand like Pact is a great place to start! In addition to providing great products, they also offer a variety of resources and information to help you learn more about why sustainable and ethical fashion is so important for the people and environments around the world.

I hope this post was helpful for you, and gave you a resource to use when you need to do some shopping in the future. Ethical fashion doesn’t need to be daunting. If you can’t find what you need secondhand, then Pact is a good stop to make on your journey.

Let me know if you try any of these pieces, or if you purchase a different Pact product that you love!
