Clean Skincare- What’s All the Fuss About?

With the new year, you may be wanting to clean up your skincare a bit. This is a great goal, and one that will greatly improve your health in the long-term if you are diligent and consistent.

The products we put on our skin are just as important as the food we put in our mouths- perhaps even more so, because anything that is absorbed through the skin goes directly into our bloodstream. This makes is essential that we are putting the cleanest ingredients on our skin.

Otherwise, the toxic effects of manmade and synthetic chemicals and ingredients bioaccumulate, or build-up, in our bodies. These materials are often called endocrine-disrupting and estrogen-mimicking.

Simply put, this means that they can make themselves look and act like various hormones in your body.

When absorbed in the body, these counterfeit cells can decrease or increase normal hormone levels, mimic the body’s natural hormones, or alter the natural production of hormones. Our endocrine systems require very small amounts of natural hormones to function healthily; and our hormones direct every function in our bodies. The large amounts of synthetic chemicals that we are putting in our bodies every day, through diet, skincare, drinking water, cleaning products etc., overwhelm our endocrine system and throw our delicate hormonal balance out of whack.

The primary danger of these ingredients is that it can take many years for the negative impacts to become apparent in our physical health. So, people are quick to brush off the need to do anything about it, preferring to have a reactive stance to their health as opposed to a preventive one.

True Botanicals offers only the cleanest ingredients in their products, taking the guesswork out of choosing skincare that will help nourish your body.

What is True Botanicals?

True Botanicals is a women-owned small business, providing clean and natural skincare products to consumers without compromising quality.

They “prioritize both certified-organic and wild-harvested ingredients, and take sourcing seriously, tracing ingredients to their origins and ensuring that their cultivation and production are sustainable for the local community as well as the environment.” Using only the highest quality ingredients, products are free of the fillers and harsh chemicals that have become common-place in the beauty world.

All of True Botanicals’ products carry the MADE SAFE® seal, the most comprehensive safety standard available, which certifies they are made without 5,000+ toxic chemicals known to harm human and environmental health. They are also a cruelty-free company (Leaping Bunny certified) and their products are free of genetically modified organisms.

Today I’m going to be sharing with you about their newest product, the Chebula Active Immunity Serum, and providing a quick review.

Chebula Active Immunity Serum- Only at True Botanicals

True Botanicals’ newest product is their Active Immunity Serum, made with Chebula, a never before used anti-inflammatory and antioxidant.

Chebula is a multi-purpose bioactive ingredient that combats the five most common signs of aging- roughness and dryness, dullness, fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and elasticity and firmness- without the need for multiple products.

Chebula is also a cascading antioxidant, meaning once it’s done fighting one free radical, it reacts by taking a new form that can fight the next free radical, and the next, and the next – without losing the ability to defend and protect your skin.

60% of Chebula is bioactive, compared to most natural fruit sources being around 10% bioactive. This particularly high percentage of bioactive Chebulinic and Chebulagic acids are able to penetrate the upper levels of the skin and intercept oxidative stress before it can trigger inflammation – which is the root cause of aging on the skin.

The other main ingredients in this serum are Ginger, Elderberry, Echinacea, and Hyaluronic Acid. All lovely, and all safe to be putting on your body.

Product Review

To use this serum you apply it like you would any other, after cleansing but before you apply other moisturizer or oils.

I have tried this serum out both in the morning and evening, and find that the results are impressive either way. I’ll wash my face, apply this serum and let it soak in for a minute, then apply my eye cream and any additional moisturizers.

The consistency of this serum when you apply it is thicker than an oil, so it doesn’t dribble down your face before you can rub it in, but it’s lighter than a cream. It is cool to the touch, and very refreshing, and almost feels wet as you rub it in. I’ve found that I don’t need more than about three or four drops to cover my face and neck. The scent is also…barely discernible, but very light, and fresh, and soothing.

Since using this serum, I’ve found that the texture of my skin is definitely smoother than it has been recently, especially in combination with my other products. I’ve been struggling with dry and flakey skin over the course of this winter (face-wise, mostly on my forehead) but since using this serum, that hasn’t been an issue for me. I’ve also noticed that on the days I wear any sort of makeup on my skin, that it applies more smoothly and evenly than it has tended to in the past.

My first impression when using this serum was that I felt so fancy. I’ve never used a serum before, and I could tell right away that this is a very high-quality product. Personally, I wouldn’t say that a serum is a required step in a skincare routine (definitely depends on who you ask), but it is a nice addition that seems to enhance my other products well. I am looking forward to trying additional True Botanicals products in the future; while a bit pricey, consider it an investment in your long-term health and skincare- and a little goes a long way, so these products with last you a good long while.

While I believe that a clean diet is the best form of skincare, that doesn’t eliminate the importance of putting clean, quality ingredients on your skin. True Botanicals is a great resource if you’re looking for a trustworthy business- they’ve taken the guesswork out of creating a clean routine. Additionally, Treat Yourself Skincare and Ambersea Apothecary are also awesome options, and I will be doing a post in the future sharing about all three of these brands and why they’re great, and why I would recommend them over other brands (and any more I happen to try between now and then).

Let me know if you end up trying this serum for yourself, and be sure to tag True Botanicals on social media (@truebotanicals) if you post a picture of their products! Let me know what posts and content you’d like to see more of in the coming months, and I’ll do my best to cover that content for you:)

Until next time…
